How Whatnot seller fees work
When you sell on Whatnot, two main fees come out of each order: a commission and a payment processing fee. Knowing both helps you price items so that every sale still leaves you a profit.
Commission. Whatnot takes a percentage of the item's sale price. For most categories on the standard tier, that is 8%. Sales made with coins are charged 4%, and sellers who reach higher sales tiers pay lower rates. Commission is based on the sale price only. It is not charged on shipping or sales tax.
Payment processing. On top of commission, there is a processing fee on the total the buyer pays. This calculator uses 2.9% of the sale price, buyer-paid shipping, and sales tax, plus $0.30 per order.
Net payout. Your payout is the sale price plus the shipping the buyer paid, minus commission and processing. Sales tax is collected and passed on, so it isn't part of your payout.
Profit. To find what you really keep, subtract what the item cost you and what you actually paid to ship it. The margin shows profit as a share of the sale price. Low-priced items can lose money quickly because the $0.30 processing charge and shipping costs take a bigger bite.
A few tips: price with fees in mind before you go live, watch your real shipping costs closely, and bundle low-priced items so each order carries more value. Auctions can end above or below what you expect, so run the numbers for a few possible final prices.
Fees change. Always check Whatnot's help center on seller fees for current rates before setting prices. This tool gives an estimate, not financial advice.
